Acer joins Sony’s on-going program for the replacement of certain Sony lithium-ion batteries used in notebook computers.

Sony announced the details of a voluntary recall program in the United States for certain battery packs containing lithium-ion cells manufactured by Sony and which were used by various notebook computer makers. Details of the Sony program can be found on the website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) at http://www.cpsc.gov.

Sony invited Acer to participate in this program and Acer announced its decision to do so, in cooperation with the CPSC in the United States, on 25^th April, 2007.

Although there have been no reports of injury or fire involving Acer notebook computers containing the affected Sony battery packs, Acer is offering this free-of-charge battery replacement program to all users who have an affected product. To determine whether your Acer notebook computer may be eligible for battery pack replacement, please review the list of notebook computer models reported below. Users of eligible Acer notebook computers should only use their computer with an AC power adapter until a replacement battery pack is received. Please note that not all battery packs in notebook computers listed are eligible for replacement, but if you own a product on the list, call/contact your local service center (+65) 6895 6297 for information that will determine whether the replacement program applies to your battery pack.
